Poison oak always has three leaves tightly clustered together. It can grow as a vine that weaves up high into the braches of other trees; but it can also grow as a free standing bush or shrub. Poison oak leaves are colored differently at different times of the year, it can vary from a light green to a dark red. It often has clusters of white berries that hang from it's branches ![]() Poison Ivy also has tightly grouped leaves of three, and can grow as a bush or as a vine. It likes to grow in shady moist areas, usually under the canopy of large trees. What distinguishes it from poison oak is that it has more rounded leaves that come to a point at the tip; and it tends to have yellowish green leaves. ![]() Poison Sumac appears primarily in the Eastern United States in wet swampy conditions. It often grows in standing water and bogs of peat moss. It is characterized by branches with about 10 leaflets each, arranged in pairs with one lone leaf at the tip. It appears green in the spring and summer but turns red later in the season. ![]() |
